Managed by Alain Vauthier since the mid-1990s, Château Ausone is considered the best, most consistently great wine of Saint-Emilion by wine lovers.
The average age of the vines is 50 years old, and the vineyard has excellent natural drainage due to its steep slope. In addition to an outstanding terroir, perhaps the best in Saint-Emilion, the estate's east and south east-facing sun exposure makes the grapes ripen perfectly.
Dug out of solid limestone, Château Ausone's impressive cellars are also well worth a visit.
Often slightly austere when young, Ausone is marvelously elegant, powerful, and complex. It can easily age for 20 years or more.
Château Ausone's rarity (less than 25,000 bottles a year for the 1st and the second wine together) makes it increasingly inaccessible to the average person. In fact, Ausone's market price will soon be in the same league as other such prestigious Right Bank wines as Petrus, Le Pin, Lafleur, etc. in great vintages (2005 and 2000 in particular).
Ausone is an exceptional wine, greatly enjoyed by connoisseurs.
