Château Batailley is one of the oldest and largest estates in the Médoc. The vineyard has meager, deep gravel soil.
Since 1961, Emile Castéja manages this property as well as the other growths in the family group (Beau-Site, Trottevieille, Bergat, Domaine de l'Eglise).
Château Batailley is a classic deeply-colored Pauillac, with a rather massive, even somewhat rustic style. However the first wine of Batailley has clearly gained in smoothness and elegance since 2002.
Batailley always requires 5-10 years to reach its full potential.
Since 2002, Batailley's best vintages have a very good quality/price ratio.
Recent vintages of Batailley are representative of the new orientation of the estate towards more elegance.
