STUDIES ON BORDEAUX WINES AND GROWTHS

Chateau Batailley

Pauillac

5ème Grand Cru Classé

last update : Friday 12 February 2010

Château Batailley is one of the oldest and largest estates in the Médoc.
The vineyard has meager, deep gravel soil.
Since 1961, Emile Castéja manages this property as well as the other growths in the family group (Beau-Site, Trottevieille, Bergat, Domaine de l'Eglise).
Château Batailley is a classic deeply-colored Pauillac, with a rather massive, even somewhat rustic style. However the first wine of Batailley has clearly gained in smoothness and elegance since 2002.
