Boyd-Cantenac was created by Irishman Jacques Boyd in 1754. The château has belonged to the Guillemet family since the 1930s. They also own Château Pouget, another great growth in the Margaux appellation.
Located on a well-drained, meager, siliceous-gravel terroir from the Quarterny period characteristic to the Margaux area, the 17 hectare estate makes charming, traditional, aromatic, full-bodied wines.
The last few vintages of Boyd-Cantenac are much better than wines from the 90s, which at times lacked balance and elegance. Recent vintages of Château Boyd Cantenac are among the best wines in the Margaux appellation.
Thanks to recent improvements, Boyd-Cantenac has become good value for money.
