Château Caillou is entitled to both the Barsac and Sauternes appellations, and was included in the 1855 classification.
The vineyard has remained the same size since then: 15 hectares in a single block between châteaux Climens and Myrat.
Château Caillou's subsoil is made up of limestone and shallow sandy-gravel.
Marked by long barrel aging (36 months for the 2003), the regular cuvée does not always live up to the expectations of people who appreciate beautiful, delicate, sweet white wines.
However, the estate's "Private Cuvée", made from carefully selected grapes and fermented in barrel, as well as the very rare "Cuvée Reine", are among the best in the appellation.
Old vintages of Château Caillou can be purchased directly from the estate.
