STUDIES ON BORDEAUX WINES AND GROWTHS

Chateau Carmes Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan

Non classif.

Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion is a 5 hectare estate not far from Château Haut-Brion. In 1554, Jean de Pontac - the founder of Haut-Brion - donated Les Carmes Haut Brion to the Carmelite nuns. This lovely small estate is quite close to the city of Bordeaux. Hidden by trees, it is a haven of greenery that miraculously survived urban expansion. Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion is one of the rare estates in the Pessac-Léognan appellation to produce only red wine.

The proportion of grape varieties - with a high percentage of Merlot and Cabernet Franc - is more similar to the Right Bank (St-Emilion, Pomerol, etc.), which explains Carmes Haut Brion's generous style.

In the Bottle

The vines are carefully tended, and malolactic fermentation takes place in barrel. Château Carmes Haut-Brion has been consistently good for the past decade, and the more recent vintages are highly recommended.

Very good Price to Quality deal.
