Considered one of the best Crus Bourgeois for many years, Château Chasse-Spleen's 60 hectare vineyard is located on the Grand Poujeaux gravelly rise.
The terroir consists of 80% Garonne gravel on a limestone substrate and 20% clay-limestone soil.
This well-drained soil accounts for full-bodied wines with plenty of character and good aging potential.
Chasse Spleen has produced some legendary vintages (such as 1949, 1975, 1982, and 1989) which give certain 2nd and 3rd growths a run for their money.
Chasse-Spleen has certainly been more more regular since the 90s, but has not quite reached the remarkable quality of certain previous vintages which are a bargain at auctions.
Very well-made, the majority of recent vintages unquestionably demonstrate that Chasse-Spleen is indeed one of the best Crus Bourgeois.
