Located between two of the most famous châteaux in Pauillac - Lafite and Mouton Rothschild - Clerc Milon was somewhat neglected by the Vialard and Hedon families who owned the estate for many years. They sold it to Baron Philippe de Rothschild in 1970 for a million francs. He immediately made considerable investments in modernizing the cellars and renovating the vineyard to improve this 5th growth's reputation. It took 10 years for these efforts to be rewarded with increased quality and recognition.
The 40 hectare vineyard is on the Milon and Mousset Günzian gravel rises.
Old vintages of Clerc Milon were often very full-bodied and strong. Since the 90s, however, the style has become more refined, and recent vintages are certainly rounder and more approachable.

Slightly closed-in, dusty (graphite) bouquet with some not particularly attractive blackcurrant aromas.
Fairly acidic and medium-bodied. There is unripe tannin here, and the wine clearly lacks substance.
I really did not find it charming tonight, but it may improve with age.
