Château Clinet is located approximately 40 km from the city of Bordeaux, in the center of the Pomerol appellation, which dates from 1936. Previously, the vineyards were considered a part of Saint-Emilion. Jean-Louis Laborde is the present owner of Clinet.
The vines at Clinet are average age of 40 years old, and the Günz gravel terrace is ideal for the early ripening of Merlot grapes. The vines sink their roots more than 5 metres into the soil in order to find the necessary water and nutrition. Most of these vines are Merlot (85%), followed by Cabernet Sauvignon (10%) and Cabernet Franc (5%).
Michel Rolland has been consulting enologist at Château Clinet since the late 1980s. Meticulous work in the vineyard all year long and picking at peak ripeness help to make Clinet a powerful, fruity, full-boded, and velvety Pomerol. Some vintages in the 90s were thought to be somewhat over-oaked by critics, but Clinet has unquestionably gained in finesse in recent years.
