Historically, Clos des Jacobins was long considered one of the great wines of Saint-Emilion. However, its reputation suffered starting in the 1950s.
Bernard Decoster and his family bought Clos des Jacobins in 2004. Helped by precious advice from Hubert de Boüard of Château Angélus, the vineyard was entirely restructured (drainage, replanting of certain plots, etc.). The winery and cellars were also modernized.
Grape varieties are as follows: (75%), Cabernet Franc (23%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (2%). The south-facing vines are located at the foot of the Saint-Emilion slope and benefit from erosion of the plateau, which entails the addition of clay-limestone soil.
Thanks to major efforts over the past few years, Clos des Jacobins is well on the way to becoming, once again, one of the finest wines of Saint-Emilion.
