STUDIES ON BORDEAUX WINES AND GROWTHS

Chateau Corbin Michotte

Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

Grand Cru Classé

last update : Sunday 27 November 2011

Château Corbin Michotte is a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé bordering on Pomerol.

Corbin Michotte is a superb former feudal estate with vines in a single block. In 1355, during the English occupation of Southwest France, the Black Prince (son of King Edward the 3rd) came to live in Bordeaux, at which time he owned Corbin Michotte. Jean-Noël Boidron acquired the property in 1953 and invested heavily in order to improve quality.

The 8-hectare vineyard is located on a gravelly part of Saint-Emilion. The subsoil has alluvial sand, limestone and ironpan. Grape varieties consist of 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. The significant percentage of Cabernet (35%) is rather high for Saint-Emilion. The average age of the vines is 40 years.

In the Bottle

Corbin Michotte is a wine that is well-balanced even when very young. It is a velvety, fruity wine with beautiful tannin that makes for fine ageing potential.
