Château Côte de Baleau is located in the northeast part of Saint-Emilion, less than one km from the medieval village. It was included as a cru classé in the Saint-Emilion classification.
An ancestor of the Reiffers family made a name for himself in the army of Louis the 14th, and two properties, Côte de Baleau and Les Grandes Murailles, were given to him by the monarchy in recognition of his military expoits. Sophie Fourcade has perpetuated the work of her ancestors for the past ten years.
Château Côte de Baleau has 8 hectares of vines on a clay-limestone plateau. Grape varieties consist of 70% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Cabernet Franc. The average age of the vines is 35 years.
Côte de Baleau is an aromatic wine with a fine tannic structure. It can also age very well, depending, of course, on the vintage.
