Belonging to the Dubourdieu family since 1924, Château Doisy-Daëne has been lucky enough to have had three generations of enthusiastic owners, who succeeded in making this estate one of the best in Sauternes-Barsac.
Located in the commune of Barsac, the vineyard soil consists of a thin layer of clay and sand on a limestone plateau. The water table is 10 meters below ground level. This provies all necessary nutrients to the vines via porous limestone, thereby avoiding hydric stress.
Must is extracted by gentle pressing, and the wine is fermented in barrel. It is then aged, also in barrel, for approximately 18 months. The estate also produces 4-6 barrels of a special cuvée, L'Extravagant de Doisy-Daëne, exclusively in great years. This is a superlative expression of botrytis at its very best.
Denis Dubourdieu - who also works as a consultant for many Pessac and Graves estates producing dry white wine - aims to make wine that can be enjoyed young. However, in great vintages, Doisy-Daëne is a benchmark for the entire appellation. The château also makes an intense dry, aromatic white wine.
Château Doisy-Daëne is a beautiful, concentrated Barsac. Recent vintages of Doisy-Daëne clearly stands out as excellent in relative to other wines of the Sauternes region with an aging potential of at least twenty years.
When Château Doisy-Daëne is successful, it is truly magnificent and, therefore, fantastic value for money.
