STUDIES ON BORDEAUX WINES AND GROWTHS

Chateau Fontenil

Fronsac

Non classif.

last update : Sunday 27 November 2011

Château Fontenil was created in 1986 by Dany and Michel Rolland, who acquired a few hectares of vines in the commune of Saillans. One of the plots was called Fontenil, which gave its name to the wine.

Both graduates of the Bordeaux Faculty of Enology, and consultants at many other estates, Dany and Michel Rolland have particular expertise in the Fronsac appellation.

The 9-hectare Fontenil vineyard is on a south-facing slope with clay-limestone soil on a layer of Fronsac molasse. Grape varieties consist of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The average age of the vines is 40 years

In the Bottle

Château Fontenil produces concentrated, tannic wines with tasty red fruit flavours.
