This elegant 18th century style château with a vast vineyard borders on Lagrange and Branaire-Ducru to the east. Bought from Alcatel Alsthom by the Bernard Taillan group in 1997, Gruaud Larose has been managed by Georges Pauli since the 1970s. He has been very effective in ensuring technical continuity at the estate.
Composed of a very homogeneous gravel subsoil on marl bedrock, the terroir encourages full, even ripening.
Taking better advantage of its quality fruit, Gruaud Larose has recently turned towards producing more concentrated, expressive, and easy-to-drink wines.
Despite several changes of ownership in the 90s, the situation at Château Gruaud Larose has now stabilized. The recent trend has been to produce wines that are rather extracted, with pleasant, ripe fruit.
Capable of dazzling successes such as 1983 and 1988, Gruaud Larose is famous for its tremendous regularity.
This reliable, reasonably priced wine is one of the best Quality/Price ratios among the Médoc great growths. Château Gruaud Larose is a solid wine which rarely disappoints.
