STUDIES ON BORDEAUX WINES AND GROWTHS

Chateau Haut Bailly

Pessac-Léognan

Cru Classé de Graves

last update : Monday 04 January 2010

Founded by a Parisian banker in 1630, Haut Bailly is located quite close to the city of Bordeaux. In 1998, the Wilmers family bought the estate from the Sanders family. The new owners were determined to improve the château's fine quality even further.
The 30 hectare vineyard has a unique sand and gravel soil with a fossil stone subsoil.
Through the years, the Haut-Bailly team have been advised by the most prestigious oenologists in Bordeaux. After the late Emile Peynaud (until 1990), Pascal Ribereau-Gayon was consultant to the estate. He was followed by Denis Dubourdieu in 1998, and later by Jean Delmas (Haut Brion). All of these famous consultants have done their utmost to make fine, elegant wine at this famous Pessac-Léognan.
In addition, a small (just over 4 hectare) plot of 90 year old vines is maintained to contribute a special concentration to Haut-Bailly.

TASTING NOTES

Laurent Gibet - 02/2007

Generous bouquet of candied cherries and herbs.
Slightly unbalanced on the palate with a sugary sensation (due to chaptalization?). Dry tannin.
I would not wait too long to enjoy this wine.
