Château L'Eglise-Clinet has a special position among the top wines of Pomerol. Owned by the Durantou family since the late 19th century, the 6 hectare vineyard has an exceptional clay-gravel terroir.
Thanks to his 40 year old vines, Denis Durantou makes wines that fully express the complexity of his terroir as well as the quality of the grapes, which are picked at optimum phenolic ripeness.
Low yields explain this great Pomerol's limited production.
Lovers of great Merlot enjoy L'Eglise-Clinet whatever the year. 2008, 2006, 2001 and 2000 are remarkable in every way, and the vintages in between are also of excellent quality. The incomparable 1998 and 2005 Eglise-Clinet, however, are perhaps the estate's biggest successes for the past 15 years.
Even though Château L'Eglise-Clinet's quality is on par with the most prestigious Pomerols such as Petrus, Lafleur, and Le Pin, its reputation is slightly under-valued abroad, which explains why it is much less expensive than the aforementioned cult wines. A bargain for real connoisseurs, but for how much longer ?

Complex bouquet of red berries, thyme and flowers.
Concentrated and full-bodied on the palate with excellent tannin.
Lively acidity and an austere structure somewhat overshadowing the vibrant underlying fruit at the present time.
Eglise Clinet is usually difficult to assess so young, but 2002 looks very promising, with good aging potential.
