Located on the north-eastern Saint-Emilion slope, a stone's throw from the medieval town, Château La Couspaude has clay-limestone soil on limestone bedrock.
With assistance from the Rolland enology laboratory, Alain Aubert and his brothers have introduced innovative methods to take advantage of the estate's intrinsic qualities.
In order to make great wine reflecting their terroir from fine ripe fruit, they implemented strict temperature control in small vats, gentle extraction, and fermentation in new oak barrels. La Couspaude is fruit-forward with elegant tannin and well-integrated oak. The style is rather "modern", and will delight lovers of strong, but easy-to-drink wines.
Château La Couspaude is a consistently good "modern" style Bordeaux with a good quality/price ratio, often mentioned as one of the better Saint-Emilion Grands Crus Classés.
Many recent vintages are well-made wines that are soon ready to enjoy.
