Pomerol

Non classif.

last update : Sunday 27 November 2011

Château La Pointe is located in the Pomerol appellation. The name "La Pointe" (meaning "the point") comes from the triangular shape of the vineyard.

The château's first golden age was at the end of the Second Empire. La Pointe belonged to the d’Arfeuille family for many years before the insurance firm Generali bought the estate in 2007.

There are 22 hectares of vines. The terroir is quite varied, with gravel and smooth round stones on the surface as well as soil with clay and gravel, soil with clay and sand, and soil with sand and gravel. The proportion of grape varieties is classic for Pomerol: 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. The vines at Château La Pointe are an average age of 35 years old, and the density is 6,300 vines per hectare.

In the Bottle

Average annual production is about 100,000 bottles. Since 2008, Hubert de Boüard de Laforest, owner of Château Angelus in Saint-Emilion, has been a consultant at Château La Pointe.

The terroir is conducive to producing seductive, elegant wines.
