Bordering on Margaux and Lascombes, this château was built in a lovely neoclassical style. The estate unfortunately stagnated for many years, unitl it was acquired by Hubert Perrodo in 1989. Monsieur Perrodo - who sadly passed away in late 2006 - made considerable investments in the vineyard and cellars.
The 35 hectare vineyard has a fine gravel, fine sand, and clay-silt soil with limestone outcrops typical of its appellation.
Recent vintages of Château Labégorce are refined with a rather elegant texture.
Château Labégorce, a good Cru Bourgeois Supérieur, had several beautiful successes (1983 and 1985), followed by a less-than-spectacular decade.
However, this period came to an end with the excellent 1995 and 1998 vintages. Labegorce's quality is frequently on a par with the average for classified growths in the Margaux appellation and offers an excellent Quality/Price ratio.
