STUDIES ON BORDEAUX WINES AND GROWTHS

Chateau Lafon-Rochet

Saint-Estèphe

4ème Grand Cru Classé

last update : Sunday 27 November 2011

Remarkably situated next to Lafite Rothschild and Cos Labory, and quite close to Cos d'Estournel, Château Lafon-Rochet has 40 hectares of vines in a single block, with gravel soil on a clay-sand subsoil.

The Château was built in the 1970s and is easily recognizable due to its recent re-painting in the same cheerful orange color as the new label.

The construction of an air-conditioned cellar and a new vat room in 2000 is in line with the owners' ambitions.

Belonging to the Tesseron family since 1959, this 4th growth Saint-Estèphe produces deep, expressive, elegantly spicy wines which require several years to express themselves.

In the Bottle

Château Lafon-Rochet's vineyards and winemaking facilities were entirely renovated by Guy Tesseron in the 1970s, and these improvements have definitely begun to bear fruit.

Lafon-Rochet has produced top quality, straightforward, classy wines since the excellent 1989 vintage.

However it is, above all, thanks to its remarkable consistency that Lafon Rochet is invariably listed among the best wines of Saint-Estèphe. This wine definitely represents good value for money.
