STUDIES ON BORDEAUX WINES AND GROWTHS

Chateau Lamothe-Guignard

Sauternes

2ème Grand Cru Classé

last update : Sunday 04 December 2011

Château Lamothe-Guignard is located on one of the high points of the commune of Sauternes, overlooking the Ciron Valley. The château was ranked a 2nd growth in the 1855 classification.

Lamothe-Guignard was purchased by Philippe and Jacques Guignard in 1981.

The 18-hectare vineyard has two types of terroir. The larger section features several plateaux with gravelly soil. Facing north and northwest, the smaller part has clay-limestone slopes. The grape varieties are Sémillon (90%) and Sauvignon Blanc (10%). Certain years, the blend also includes a little Muscadelle.

In the Bottle

Lamothe-Guignard has a lovely bouquet of candied fruit and a slightly oaky aroma. It usually ages well (15-20 years).
