Larmande is a very ancient estate. In fact, records show that it has existed since 1585. Located just over 1 km from the medieval village of Saint-Emilion, Larmande was a wedding gift to Alice Capdemourlin and Fernand Méneret. Three generations later, Jean Méneret sold Château Larmande to the La Mondiale insurance group in late 1990. The estate is now managed by Pascal Maniez, assisted by Claire Thomas-Chenard, a graduate of the Bordeaux Faculty of Enology.
Larmande's vineyards have since expanded to a total of 25 hectares. Grape varieties consist of two thirds Merlot and one third Cabernet Franc. The soil is largely (70%) clay-limestone with a sandy subsoil. The rest is predominantly clay-siliceous.
The average yield at Château Larmande is 40 hectoliters/hectare and average annual production of the grand vin amounts to 110,000 bottles. The rest is sold under the name "Le Cadet de Larmande." It is easy to recognize bottles of Larmande because for their famous pinkish-coloured capsule.
