Chateau Laroque

Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

Grand Cru Classé

last update : Sunday 04 December 2011

Château Laroque is located on a terrace overlooking the Dordogne, near the village de Saint-Emilion. After 35 years of unstinting efforts, Château Laroque finally achieved Grand Cru Classé status in 1996.

The estate's history goes back as far as the Anglo-Norman invasions. The family of Marquis de Rochefort-Lavie owned Laroque until 1935. The Beaumartin family took over in the 1960s and replanted 40 hectares of vines.

The estate now has 58 hectares of vines in a single block on southeast and west-facing plateaux and slopes with clay-limestone soil. Grape varieties consist of Merlot (87%), Cabernet Franc (11%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (2%). The average age of the vines is 35 years.

In the Bottle

Château Laroque is generally round and complex with beautiful aromas and fine tannin.

The average annual production is 100-150,000 bottles.
