Chateau Laroze

Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

Grand Cru Classé

last update : Sunday 04 December 2011

Owned by the Meslin family, Château Laroze, a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé, is located just outside the medieval village of Saint-Emilion.

The estate has 27 hectares of vines in a single block, of which 25 produce wine sold under the main château label. The vineyard is located at the foot of Saint-Emilion's northwest slope on a layer of siliceous soil that forces the vines to sink their roots one to two meters deep in order to find nourishment in a layer of clay. Grape varieties consist of Merlot (68%), Cabernet Franc (26%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (6%). The average age of the vines of grape-bearing age is 20 years.

In the Bottle

Château Laroze was somewhat uneven in the past, but has fortunately become much more reliable of late. Post-2002 vintages have made regular progress.
