Château Latour à Pomerol is located on the Right Bank, in Pomerol. Seeing as there is no classification in Pomerol, Latour à Pomerol has no official rank, but is widely considered one of the best wines in the appellation.
The estate belonged to the Chambaud family in the 18th century. Madame Lily Lacoste inherited Latour à Pomerol in 1961 and owned it for 40 years before donating the estate to a foundation, the Foyers de Charité de Châteauneuf de Galaure, in 2002. The château is currently managed by the firm of Jean-Pierre Moueix, under the supervision of Olivier Berrouet, Technical Director of Pétrus.
The vines (90% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc) grow on a rise consisting of gravel and clay soil. The vineyard has a surface area of 7.9 hectares.
The average annual production of Latour à Pomerol amounts to 36,000 bottles. There is no second wine. While Latour à Pomerol has produced some legendary vintages in the past (1947, 1959, 1961, and 1982), current vintages tend to be more supple and reflect pure fruit rather than extreme concentration.
