Château Le Gay is located in Pomerol, not far from Pétrus, Lafleur, and Vieux Château Certan.
Le Gay was acquired in 2002 by Catherine Péré-Vergé, who had already become owner by that time of Château Montviel and Château Fontenil, also in Pomerol. Château Le Gay had belonged to the Robin sisters, also owners of Château Lafleur, for the previous 60 years.
Catherine Péré-Vergé receives advice from the famous enologist Michel Rolland.
This splendid 7 hectare vineyard has clay-gravel soil. The average age of the vines is 30 years. Grape varieties consist of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. Four more hectares were recently planted, although it will be some time before grapes from these vines will go into the grand vin.
The average annual production of Le Gay is approximately 15,000 bottles. Since the estate was acquired by Catherine Péré-Vergé, and the wine made with the assistance of the famous consultant, Michel Rolland, Château Le Gay has quickly made a name for itself as one of the great wines of Pomerol. Le Gay is relatively rare because of the small size of the vineyard. It has a bouquet of truffles and a very suave texture.
