STUDIES ON BORDEAUX WINES AND GROWTHS

Chateau le Prieure

Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

Grand Cru Classé

last update : Sunday 04 December 2011

Château Le Prieuré, a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé, has belonged to the Guichard family since 1897, at which time the original estate, Cru des Cordeliers, dating from 1696, was subdivided.

Le Prieuré is currently owned by Aline Guichard, daughter of Olivier Guichard (who was a minister of Charles de Gaulle), and her husband, Paul Goldschmidt.

The 6.24 hectare vineyard is in two south-facing plots with clay-limestone soil. Bordered by Troplong-Mondot, Pavie-Macquin, and La Clotte, the vines (90% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc) straddle the slopes and plateau of Saint Emilion. Their average age is nearly 40 years.

In the Bottle

Since 2006, Stéphane Derenoncourt has been winemaking consultant at Château Le Prieuré. The style is rather elegant with a spicy character that goes well with food.
