Château Mazeyres is a beautiful estate located in the prestigious Pomerol appellation.
The château's history is not well known, although it is obvious that it goes back a long way. In 1988, the Société Générale pension fund acquired Château Mazeyres and asked Alain Moueix to take over management.
The 22 hectare vineyard (large for Pomerol) has a heterogeneous terroir with varying proportions of sand and clay, accompanied by crasse de fer (iron-rich hardpan) in the subsoil. The vines are over 30 years old. These consist of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc.
Château Mazeyres is both deep and velvety on the palate. In great vintages, it can age for fifteen years or more. Mazeyres produces approximately 70,000 bottles a year of the grand vin and 40,000 of the second wine.
