STUDIES ON BORDEAUX WINES AND GROWTHS

Chateau Myrat

Barsac-Sauternes

2ème Cru Classé Sauternes

last update : Sunday 04 December 2011

Château de Myrat is located on the Barsac plateau on the left bank of the Garonne, about thirty km southeast of Bordeaux. Myrat was included among the second growths in the 1855 classification.

The château beongs to the de Pontac family, whose ancestor, Arnaud de Pontac, owned Château Haut-Brion and was a key figure in the history of winegrowing in Bordeaux.

Château de Myrat has 22 hectares of vines in a single block on predominantly clay-limestone soil. Grape varieties consist of 86% Sémillon, 10% Sauvignon Blanc, and 4% Muscadelle. The average age of the vines is less than 15 years old.

In the Bottle

The most recent vintages of Château de Myrat are in a classic style and very promising. The improvement in quality should be even more marked as the vines age.
