Non classif.

last update : Sunday 08 January 2012

Château Raymond-Lafon is located in the communes of Sauternes, Bommes, and Preignac in the Sauternes appellation. Created in the mid-19th century by Raymond Lafon, the château was ineligible to be considered for the historic 1855 classification. However, from the very beginning, Raymond-Lafon has always been recognized as an extremely fine Sauternes.

Francine and Pierre Meslier acquired the estate in 1972. Since 1990, their children, Marie-Françoise, Charles-Henri, and Jean-Pierre Meslier manage the château.

Raymond-Lafon has 18 hectares of vines, of which 16 are currently in production. The soil is gravelly and the subsoil clay-limestone. The vineyard has ideal sun exposure for making great Sauternes. Grape varieties consist of 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc. There are 6,666 vines per hectare and their average age is 35 years.

In the Bottle

Château Raymond-Lafon produces a rich, elegant Sauternes with a very long aftertaste and, depending on the vintage, flavors of tropical fruit, vanilla, preserved lemon, spice, prune and honey.
