The wine of Château Rayne Vigneau, located in the commune of Bommes, in the Sauternes appellation, has been appreciated since the 17th century. At that time, the name Vigneau designated the vineyard, the château, the siegneury and the Vigneau family who owned all of the above. When the wines of Sauternes were classified in 1855, the estate was known simply as "Vigneau".
Château Rayne Vigneau has belonged to Crédit Agricole Grands Crus since 2004.
Adjacent to Yquem and Sigalas-Rabaud, the estate has 80 hectares of vines in a single block on a magnificent rise overlooking the entire Sauternes region. The soil consists of gravel and sand on clay. The Sémillon variety dominates (74%), but Sauvignon Blanc (24%) accounts for the freshness typical of Rayne Vigneau. A touch of Muscadelle (2%) completes the blend. Major replanting took place in the 1980s, and the vines at Rayne Vigneau are now an average 30 years old.
Château Rayne Vigneau is very concentrated, fresh, and long. It is naturally rich with plenty of fruit and a long aftertaste.
