Château Sigalas-Rabaud is a First Growth Sauternes located on the right bank of the Ciron (the Bommes side), less than 500 metres from Château d’Yquem. The estate was known simply as "Rabaud" at the time of the 1855 classification.
Sigalas-Rabaud has been managed by the Marquis de Lambert des Granges and his daughter, Laure, since 2008.
The estate has 14.25 hectares in a single block on a south-facing rise with two main terraces. The higher of these terraces (70-80 m) features gravel on a layer of clay soil. The lower one (40-60 m) has sand, larger-sized gravel and some clay. Grape varieties consist of 85% Sémillon, 14% Sauvignon Blanc, and 1% Muscadelle, with a density of 6,500-7,500 vines/hectare. In certain plots, planting is done the old-fashioned way: vines are replaced individually rather than plot by plot. One out of every 6 vines is Sauvignon Blanc. The average age of the vines is 50 years. Most of the old vines did not suffer from the frost of 1956.
Sigalas-Rabaud is generally very floral and often reminiscent of lime blossom. Sauvignon Blanc adds lovely peach, apricot, pear, and citrus aromas. Sigalas-Rabaud is often considered the most "Barsac" of Sauternes.
