The Bernard family bought Domaine de Chevalier in 1983 and entirely renovated, replanted, and drained the vineyard, as well as building a new cellar with state-of-the-art winemaking facilities.
The château makes excellent red and white wines, which are both classified growths. This estate has fine gravel soil on a clay-ironpan subsoil. The topography is relatively flat. Yields are surprisingly low, about 20-25 hectoliters/hectare for both the red and white wine, which is remarkable given the high vine density.
Domaine de Chevalier is concentrated, fruity, and spicy, and an excellent accompaniment to any meal.
Domaine de Chevalier rarely disappoints. Since the 2000s Domaine de Chevalier produces very pleasant wines. This Pessac-Léognan is wonderfully dependable and has an absolutely remarkable Quality/Price ratio.
Fantastic Domaine de Chevalier white wines in 2001 and more recent vintages. Stéphane Derenoncourt’s arrival as consulting oenologist for the reds will be followed with great interest.

Dry white
C: Once again, superbly brilliant pale gold
N: Stellar. Subtle, well integrated, and classy oak. Ethereal.
P: Great structure. Chewy. Lovely long, harmonious aftertaste. The finest young dry white Bordeaux I can ever remember having tasted (including Haut Brion). A wine to convince die-hard Burgundy lovers that Bordeaux also produces world-class white wines.
