With Sauvignon and Semillon, Muscadelle is a minor variety used in the production of dry and sweet white wines in the Sauternes, Barsac and Graves districts.
With its flowery character, Muscadelle is a delicate and intense grape variety. It is often used in limited quantities to add extra bouquet to the blending of white wines.
Muscadelle gives elegant floral aromas with musky flavours. It is a grape with a low acid structure. In Sauternes and Barsac, Muscadelle matures rapidly and is sensitive to the noble rot called botrytis.
Little quantities of Muscadelle are planted in Australia and California.
