STUDIES ON BORDEAUX WINES AND GROWTHS

Petit Verdot

Literally translated as "Little green" in French, Petit-Verdot is a late red variety that does not always reach its full maturity under the tempered Bordeaux climate. Therefore this grape doesn't represent more than 2%-3% of the total planted surface of the Bordeaux vineyards.

Traditionally, Petit Verdot is been used to add flavour, colour, and tannins to the blending. Indeed, Petit Verdot produces extremely deep-colored, full bodied wines with peppery characteristics. It has high levels of tannins and acidity.

Petit Verdot is particularly well appreciated in warm vintages in the rebalancing of other varieties presenting excess in alcohol.

One may find Petit Verdot in regions such as California and Chile.
