Ugni blanc is better known as the initial ingredient in many brandies and Cognacs. It was mentioned in Bordeaux in the early 1700's. More recently, it has mostly been grown in the Entre-deux-Mers and in the surrounding vineyards of Blaye. The Ugni blanc varietal has gained both fame and widespread use because of its high productivity and useful natural acidity. Hence, it can be blended with more aromatic lots of dry wine.
