STUDIES ON BORDEAUX WINES AND GROWTHS

Alain Bringolf,
Owner of StatWine

I would like to share a few words about the creator of StatWine.com, Alain Bringolf, and how his passion for Bordeaux wines was kindled!

Alain’s main career has nothing to do with wine. A successful investment manager for 15 years, then a bank consultant in Geneva, his passion and knowledge of fine wine came from sharing many magnificent bottles of Bordeaux with friends.

In 1985, Alain co-founded ACEP-Vin, an association for the appreciation and promotion of wine. He was Vice-President and Manager of the ACEP-Vin Tasting Committee and his first trips to Bordeaux in the 1980s were within the framework of this association. Alain's role in the club also gave him an opportunity to buy fine wines on the London market. A true pioneer, he was also actively involved in the opening of the first wine bars in Europe.

Alain has since taken part in numerous tastings in Switzerland and throughout Europe. He has been evaluating barrel samples of great wines since the 1990s, learning enormously from this experience!

Alain saw that the art of wine tasting is, happily, not an exact science, and that the experts are, after all, only human. Each one has their particular strengths and weaknesses, and their appreciations also vary according to their physical and mental state at the time of tasting. Dissatisfied with the experts’ contradictory conclusions, he thus started to develop a mathematical system to compare scores from several experts. By the end of 1999, Winemega.com was launched, and it has had several hundred thousand hits since then…

Alain's passion for fine wine does not stop there. Along the way he has made an increasing number of friends in Bordeaux and often visits estates there to taste barrel samples, which have gone a long way towards sharpening his judgment.

StatWine.com is the culmination of more than 20 years of Alain's passionate interest in fine wine as well as 10 years of gathering data concerning Bordeaux estates. The aim of this site is to provide knowledgeable and completely objective advice about wines you were considering buying.

I hope you will enjoy exploring StatWine.com! If you are anything like me, I am sure that you will soon become hooked…
